D.C. United today announced that midfielder Lewis Neal has undergone an adductor release procedure to the right groin and a laparoscopic abdominal repair to the lower right abdominals. The operations were performed by surgical specialist Dr. L. Michael Brunt of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. The timeframe of Neal’s return is 6-8 weeks.

D.C. United today announced that the club will travel to Richmond City Stadium in Richmond, Va., for the third round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 28 at 7 p.m. ET. USL PRO affiliate tonight advanced past the second round by defeating amateur side Icon FC by a score of 4-1.

D.C. United unveils six-match ticketing plan

D.C. United today announced its Six-Game Pack, which allows fans to select their choice of six matches of the Black-and-Red’s remaining games in 2013. Available for purchase from May 20-June 29, ticket prices start at $144. Purchases prior to June 1 will be included in the pre-sale for the second half of the season. Plan holders are allowed one exchange game for a match they cannot attend.

D.C. United today announced that United midfielder Marcelo Saragosa has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to remove a loose body from the medial joint line. The procedure was performed by Doctor James Gilbert of Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy in Silver Spring, Md. Dr. James Gilbert examined Saragosa on Saturday and successfully performed surgery on him on Tuesday. The timeframe of Saragosa’s return is 4-6 weeks.

After a successful 13-year professional career in Major League Soccer and across Europe, veteran defender Robbie Russell announced his retirement today. The 33-year-old will now head to nearby and the internationally-famed Georgetown University’s Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program.

CONCACAF today announced that D.C. United forward and Guatemala native Carlos Ruiz will be honored with the confederation’s first-ever President’s Award. CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb recognized Ruiz for his achievements in fighting against match manipulation in his home country. Ruiz’s actions in speaking out against match fixing on the Guatemalan National Team paved the way for a significant inquiry into the issue.
