CONCACAF today announced that D.C. United forward and Guatemala native Carlos Ruiz will be honored with the confederation’s first-ever President’s Award. CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb recognized Ruiz for his achievements in fighting against match manipulation in his home country. Ruiz’s actions in speaking out against match fixing on the Guatemalan National Team paved the way for a significant inquiry into the issue.

D.C. United today announced a partnership with Romántica 900AM and Radio Cuscatleca USA for the Spanish-language broadcast rights to D.C. United’s 34 regular season games during this year’s MLS season. Radio Cuscatleca USA will produce the live broadcasts including play-by-play commentary for Romántica 900AM, the official Spanish-language broadcaster of the Black-and-Red.
D.C. United today announced that Univision will broadcast an additional two D.C. United regular season matches on its new sports network, Univision Deportes Network (UDN).
The Black-and-Red will be featured on the new network twice through the 2013 campaign, first on May 25 against the Portland Timbers and later on June 8 against the New England Revolution. The two additional games on Univision Deportes Network come on top of three games being broadcast on sister network UniMas this year, for a total of five Spanish language broadcasts this year.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended D.C. United forward Dwayne De Rosario for two games and fined him an undisclosed amount for violent conduct that endangered the safety of his opponent, Philadelphia Union midfielder Danny Cruz, during a preseason game between the clubs on Feb. 23. The referee issued De Rosario a red card for violent conduct in the 60th minute of the match.
The MLS Players Union appealed the decision on behalf of De Rosario. MLS Commissioner Don Garber heard the appeal yesterday and upheld the Disciplinary Committee’s decision.
