11th Annual Kick-Off Luncheon

D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., today announced that the Annual Kick-Off Luncheon will take place on Tuesday, March 5 at 12 p.m. The event will serve as a fundraiser for United for D.C., and will be held at The Hamilton Live DC. The luncheon is an opportunity for fans to meet the 2013 Black-and-Red players, coaches, and staff while also supporting United for D.C.'s mission to provide opportunities to disadvantaged youth through soccer, healthy lifestyle, and literacy initiatives.

14 Academy players announce intentions to play at 10 Division I programs

The D.C. United Academy today announced that 14 of its U-18 players have committed to play soccer at 10 different universities for the 2013 fall season. Six of the 14 players signed with programs finishing the 2012 season ranked in the top 25, including the University of Maryland, Coastal Carolina University and Wake Forest University.

Following a 13-day pre-season trip to Bradenton, Fla., at the IMG Academy, D.C. United will return to the nation’s capital on Monday for three days of training. United will then depart on Thursday for its next leg of pre-season, which will take place near Orlando, Fla. There, at the Disney Pro Soccer Classic, the team will face off against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Sporting Kansas City, the Montreal Impact and the Philadelphia Union over the course of 17 days.

D.C. United today announced that it has exercised its option to extend the contract of Head Coach Ben Olsen to run through the 2014 season. Per team and League policy, details of the contract were not disclosed.
 
“I appreciate the commitment and loyalty this club has given me over the years,” said D.C. United Head Coach Ben Olsen. “Hopefully I can continue to repay this organization with results and a team that our community is proud of.”

D.C. United today announced that defender/midfielder Andy Najar has been transferred to R.S.C. Anderlecht. Per team and League policy, the details of the deal were not disclosed. Najar became Major League Soccer’s first homegrown player to permanently move to a European side. Najar initially went on a training stint through the month of December before being loaned to the Belgian side for the month of January. The 19-year-old played 90 minutes in a January 11 friendly in a 4-2 victory against Dutch club SC Heracles Almelo and scored in a reserve match last week.

D.C. United today announced that defender/midfielder Andy Najar has been named to Honduras’ 23-man roster for a February 6 match against the U.S. Men’s National Team in the final round of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying. The game will take place at Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and will be televised on beIN SPORT at 4 p.m. ET. Najar will join the Honduran Federation on February 1.
