Andrew Dykstra loaned to Charleston Battery
D.C. United announced today that goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra has been loaned to USL PRO side Charleston Battery until June 10, 2012. Dykstra was previously loaned to the club this season and has posted a 3-2-0 record.
Seventh Annual United for D.C. Day - May 26
POST-MATCH PARTY
The Seventh Annual United for D.C. Day will wrap up after United’s match with a celebration at D.C. United bar partners The Queen Vic and The Pug to benefit United for D.C. The cover charge will be $20 and will include all-you-can-drink beer and ‘United for D.C. Punch’. The post-game event will begin immediately after the end of the match and will run until 12:30 a.m.
D.C. United to face Richmond Kickers in U.S. Open Cup third round on Tuesday, May 29
D.C. United will face the USL PRO’s Richmond Kickers in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, following the Kickers 4-0 win over amateur side Aegean Hawks FC last night. The Kickers will host United at Richmond City Stadium next Tuesday, May 29, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET.
Should D.C. United defeat the Kickers, the club will host the winner of Philadelphia Union-Rochester Rhinos – who also play Tuesday evening – at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. The match would take place on either Tuesday, June 5 or Wednesday, June 6.
U-23s finalize roster, summer schedule
For the second year in a row, D.C. United will field a U-23 side made-up of elite collegiate players from around the country. Today, club legend and U-23 Head Coach, Jaime Moreno, announced the team’s roster for the team that will compete in eight matches from May until July.
Dejan Jakovic called-up to Canadian National Team
D.C. United announced today that defender Dejan Jakovic has been called-up to the Canadian Men’s National Team for two upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and a friendly match against the U.S. Men’s National Team. Jakovic will join the Canadian Soccer Association from May 27 to June 13, but will not miss any D.C. United League matches.
United for D.C. honored with President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition Community Leadership Award
The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN) has selected United for D.C. to receive a 2012 PCFSN Community Leadership Award. The award is given annually to individuals and organizations which improve the lives of others within their community by providing or enhancing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activities, fitness or nutrition-related programs.
Academy Update
D.C. United’s U-18 and U-16 Academy teams registered a combined record of 3-0-1 during the weekend, facing USSDA Mid-Atlantic Division rivals Match Fit Chelsea and NJSA 04.
Dwayne De Rosario wins Player of the Week
D.C. United announced today that midfielder/forward Dwayne De Rosario was selected by the North American Soccer Reporters as MLS Player of the Week. De Rosario earned the honor after strong performances against the Colorado Rapids, where he opened up the scoring in a 2-0 shutout, and his former club Toronto FC, where he netted two in a 3-1 victory. The three goals were De Rosario’s 96th, 97th and 98th and is now two tallies away from his 100th MLS goal.
