D.C. United today announced that midfielder Kyle Porter has been added to the Canada Men’s National Team’s 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup roster. Porter replaces an injured Nana Attakora on Canada’s 23-man list, but will not report to training camp unless the coaching staff calls on him. Teammate Chris Pontius was also selected to the U.S.

D.C. United Showcase to take place in Virginia Beach, Va., on July 14

Black-and-Red U-23s will face Beach FC after running a youth clinic for kids ages U-7 to U-12

D.C. United today announced, in collaboration with Beach FC, that its U-23 squad will hold a player showcase in Virginia Beach, Va., on Sunday, July 14 at Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. The event will also feature youth soccer clinic for ages U-7 to U-12. The clinic will include interactive elements straight from the D.C. United Academy training program and will offer an opportunity for local youth to take the field with top-tier D.C. United U-23 staff and players. Members of the public who wish to solely attend the game will be able to do so free of charge.

D.C. United vs. Montreal, August 3, kick-off moved to 7:30 p.m. ET

Match to be included in NBC Sports Group programming
August 3 kick-off moved to 7:30 p.m. ET

D.C. United, in conjunction with Major League Soccer and NBC Sports Group, today announced that kick-off for the club’s August 3 home game against Montreal will be moved to 7:30 p.m. ET. The move allows the match to be a part of the second edition of MLS Breakaway, to be aired at 9:00 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network and NBC Sports Live Extra. The 90-minute program features live look-ins at games played throughout the League. United’s fixture, live and in its entirety will be televised regionally by Comcast SportsNet.

D.C. United today announced that Homegrown goalkeeper Bill Hamid has been selected to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s (USMNT) final 23-player roster for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The players will meet at a training camp in San Diego, Calif., on July 1 before hosting a tune-up match against Guatemala on July 5 at Qualcomm Stadium. The team will then face Belize on July 9 in Portland, Ore., Cuba on July 13 in Sandy, Utah, and Costa Rica on July 16 in Hartford, Conn., in its three Group C matches.

D.C. United today announced that the club will face the Chicago Fire in the semifinals of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match will take place at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The Black-and-Red advanced to the semifinal round – its first appearance in this stage of the competition since 2010 – by defeating the New England Revolution tonight by a score of 3-1. Chicago, meanwhile, eliminated Orlando City SC (USL PRO) from Open Cup contention by capturing a 5-1 win tonight.

D.C. United and forward Rafael today announced that the two have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. The Brazilian international appeared in seven matches (four starts) this season, logging 331 minutes and notching one goal.

“We would like to thank Rafael for his time at D.C. United, and we wish him all the best in the future,” said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper.

United Drives to collect soccer equipment

D.C. United today announced, through United Drives, that the program will collect donations of gently used sports equipment for Leveling the Playing Field on Saturday, June 29 before United’s match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Leveling the Playing Field is a charity that gives underprivileged children the chance to enjoy athletic involvement. The organization collects donations of sports equipment from colleges, county recreation departments, families and individual donors throughout the nation. The equipment will be collected when D.C. United hosts Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
