UVA tour: D.C. United’s U16 squad got a chance to see what a top collegiate program looks like last weekend during their visit to the University of Virginia. After playing a friendly against SOCA (Soccer Organization of Charlottesville/Albemarle) on Saturday, January 31, the team got a tour of UVA’s state of the art locker room with film editing and viewing equipment, a flat screen TV, couches and everything players need to be comfortable in their locker room.

Volkswagen and former D.C. United captain John Harkes team up for D.C. Auto Show

Washington, D.C. (February 3, 2009) – D.C. United announced today that former midfielder John Harkes will join United presenting sponsor Volkswagen at the Washington Auto Show. Harkes will sign autographs on Saturday, February 7 from 12-1:30 p.m. by the Volkswagen display. The 1996 MLS Cup Trophy will also be on display at the event held at the Washington Convention Center.

Washington, D.C. (February 3, 2009) – The D.C. United Academy announced its 2009 Summer Academy schedule today. The Summer Academy offers a variety of training opportunities tailored to provide a fun and rewarding experience, while encouraging players to develop their full potential. The 12-camp schedule includes locations in Virginia, Maryland and D.C., with more dates to be added in Virginia and Maryland.

Washington, D.C. (January 30, 2009) – D.C. United announced today midfielder Marcelo Gallardo has been granted a release from his contract with the club. The Argentine midfielder requested the release, citing his desire to continue his playing career in his home country. Last season, Gallardo scored four goals and recorded three assists in League play, though injuries limited him to just 15 League games (14 starts).

Payne will be providing the keynote address at the Washington SmartCEO Future 50 event on Thursday night, while defenders Bryan Namoff, Marc Burch and rookie Rodney Wallace will be on hand at the event held at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, Md. Washington, D.C. (January 28, 2009) – D.C. United announced today its 2009 Major League Soccer regular season schedule. Winners of 12 major domestic and international titles, D.C. United kicks off the campaign during First Kick weekend – presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods – on Sunday, March 22 in Los Angeles with the home opener set for Saturday, March 28 against the Chicago Fire.

Washington, D.C. (January 28, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club has re-signed defender Devon McTavish. In a season that saw a host of lineup changes from the previous year, McTavish was one of the most versatile players on the squad, playing 26 games and tallying a goal and four assists. Per team and League policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Defenders Bryan Namoff and Marc Burch will be on hand Saturday to sign autographs at the Virginia Youth Soccer Association’s Workshop at the Hyatt Regional-Crystal City in Arlington, Va. Devon McTavish will also host a seminar alongside former United player Judah Cooks at the workshop. On Sunday, Clyde Simms will be at the MSI Awards Ceremony at St. James Church in Potomac, Md. D.C. United to face Chicago Fire in home opener

Washington, D.C. (January 23, 2009) – D.C. United today announced the 2009 MLS season home opener will be played against the Chicago Fire on March 28 at RFK Stadium. The match, previously scheduled against the San Jose Earthquakes, is set for a 7:30 p.m. start. The Black-and-Red will kick off their fourteenth season on March 22 when they face the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. D.C. Washington, D.C. (January 22, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club is set to loan defender Gonzalo Peralta to Union Sante Fe of the Argentine Second Division. Due to the loan, the 28-year old will not return to United for the 2009 season. Per club and League policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed.
