United Executive Chairman Victor MacFarlane and club President Kevin Payne joined County Executive Jack Johnson, and Prince George’s legislative delegation chairs Sen. Anthony Muse and Del. Melony Griffith to announce the introduction of legislation authorizing a new stadium for D.C. United in Prince George’s County.

WHO: Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson, Delegation Chairs Sen. Anthony Muse and Del. Melony Griffith, Members of the General Assembly, as well as D.C. United co-owner Victor B. MacFarlane and team president Kevin Payne.
WHAT: Sen. Muse and Del. Griffith have introduced legislation that will enable D.C. United, the most successful professional soccer club in American history, to move to Maryland and work with the Maryland Stadium Authority to build a stadium.
Letters of Intent: Several members of the D.C. United Academy have decided where they will play college soccer. Last week, D.C. United Academy players, along with the top players around the country, signed their letters of intent promising their services to some of the top schools across the United States.
Washington, D.C. (February 11, 2009) – D.C. United, in conjunction with the U.S. Soccer Federation, today announced RFK Stadium will host the U.S. Men’s National Team on October 14 in a World Cup qualification match versus Costa Rica. Kickoff time and ticket information will be announced at a later date.
Washington, D.C. (February 10, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the signing of 2008 draft pick Andrew Jacobson. The midfielder was selected in the second round (24th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, but signed with FC Lorient of the French first division shortly after being drafted. He joins D.C. after a season in Europe that saw him struggle with injury and for playing time. Jacobson will officially join United’s roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
Washington, D.C. (February 9, 2009) – D.C. United today announced former MLS MVP Christian Gomez is set to return to D.C. for his second stint with the club. United has acquired the midfielder, goalkeeper Mike Graczyk, an international roster spot and salary cap considerations from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for midfielder/defender Ivan Guerrero, a Designated Player roster spot and a second round 2010 SuperDraft pick. Gomez will likely first be available to the media at United’s training session on Friday morning at the RFK Stadium Training Complex.
Washington, D.C. (February 9, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the remainder of the club’s plans for the 2009 preseason. The team will spend a week in Puerto Rico from Feb. 18-25 as part of their preparation for the upcoming MLS season. During their trip, United will face USL-1 side the Puerto Rico Islanders in a friendly on Feb. 21.
UVA tour: D.C. United’s U16 squad got a chance to see what a top collegiate program looks like last weekend during their visit to the University of Virginia. After playing a friendly against SOCA (Soccer Organization of Charlottesville/Albemarle) on Saturday, January 31, the team got a tour of UVA’s state of the art locker room with film editing and viewing equipment, a flat screen TV, couches and everything players need to be comfortable in their locker room.
Washington, D.C. (February 3, 2009) – D.C. United announced today that former midfielder John Harkes will join United presenting sponsor Volkswagen at the Washington Auto Show. Harkes will sign autographs on Saturday, February 7 from 12-1:30 p.m. by the Volkswagen display. The 1996 MLS Cup Trophy will also be on display at the event held at the Washington Convention Center.

The Summer Academy offers a variety of training opportunities tailored to provide a fun and rewarding experience, while encouraging players to develop their full potential.
