Washington, D.C. (February 27, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club has signed defender Dejan Jakovic. The 23-year old central defender comes to D.C. via a transfer from Red Star Belgrade of the Serbian First Division. He will be officially available upon receipt of his P-Visa.

“We are excited to have concluded the transfer and signing of Dejan,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He possesses excellent technical abilities and has good size and speed. We look forward to having him join us as we enter our final phase of pre-season.”

Washington, D.C. (February 25, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club will host FC Dallas in a U.S. Open Cup play-in game on April 22 at RFK Stadium, as it begins defense of its 2008 U.S. Open Cup title. The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET and serve as Special Game A for half and full season ticket holders. Tickets for the general public will go on sale at a later date.

Washington, D.C. (February 24, 2009) – D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., announced today the Annual Kick-off Luncheon will take place on Tuesday, March 24 at 12:00 p.m. The seventh annual event is a fundraiser for United’s 501(c)3 foundation and will be held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at the National Harbor. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the Black-and-Red’s players and coaches while supporting the club’s community initiatives.

Washington, D.C. (February 24, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club has signed forward Mawate Ange N’Silu. The 23-year-old joins United after a nearly three-week trial. He last played for FC Le Mont, a Swiss team based out of Lausanne. N’Silu will be officially added to the roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.

Washington, D.C. (February 24, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club has waived midfielder Joe Vide. The 24-year old made thirteen first team appearances for D.C over seven months with the club last season.

Season Restart: D.C. United’s U16 and U18 sides both restarted their 2009 Development Academy season in a positive fashion over the past weekend, coming away undefeated in four matches. The squad managed two wins against FC Westchester and two against Met Oval at the Germantown Soccer Plex on Saturday, Feb 14 and Sunday, Feb 15.

"Very good effort from both teams as we start this 2009 year. We have a very good idea about the things we want to continue working on and look forward to seeing our players progress," said John Maessner, United Director of Youth Development.

Washington, D.C. (February 17, 2009) – D.C. United announced today goalkeeper Zach Wells has retired from professional soccer. The 27-year old, who was recovering from off-season foot surgery, has decided to end his MLS playing career after five seasons in the League that included a one-year stint with D.C. United.

Washington, D.C. (February 17, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club acquired defender Mamadou Danso via the waiver wire process last Friday, Feb. 13. The African defender joins United after two seasons at Southern Polytechnic State University.

“We are pleased to have obtained Mamadou from the MLS waiver process,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He is a strong central defender with a big, physical presence and we look forward to giving him an opportunity to earn a spot with D.C. United.”

LARGO, MD (February 16, 2009) – Today, D.C. United Executive Chairman Victor MacFarlane and club President Kevin Payne joined County Executive Jack Johnson, and Prince George’s legislative delegation chairs Sen. Anthony Muse and Del. Melony Griffith to announce the introduction of legislation authorizing a new stadium for D.C. United in Prince George’s County.
