Washington, D.C. (May 4, 2009) - Major League Soccer announced today D.C. United’s captain Jaime Moreno has been named MLS Player of the Week for Week 7. In Saturday’s 2-1 win over FC Dallas, the Bolivian scored both of United’s goals as D.C. jumped to the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 3-1-3 record (12 pts.). This is Moreno’s seventh MLS Player of the Week award and first since Week 9 in 2006 when he scored two goals in a 3-1 road victory over the Kansas City Wizards.

Washington, D.C. (May 2, 2009) - D.C. United announced today the club will host the New York Red Bulls in a U.S. Open Cup play-in game on Wednesday, May 20 at RFK Stadium. The game will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. ET and serve as Special Game B for half and full season ticket holders. Tickets for the general public will go on sale next week.
The winner of this match up will qualify for the round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup. D.C. defeated FC Dallas in its first play-in game 2-0 on April 22, while New York defeated San Jose 2-1 on April 28 to reach this point.
Washington, D.C. (May 2, 2009) - D.C. United fans are organizing a rally in support of a stadium plan for the club prior to D.C. United’s home game May 9 against Toronto FC. Planned events include a demonstration in Lincoln Park at 3:30 p.m. ET, followed by a march to RFK Stadium and a massive dual tailgate party, hosted by La Barra Brava and the Screaming Eagles, lasting until the scheduled 7:30 p.m. kick-off.

United Reads is a signature program created to encourage elementary school students in the greater Washington D.C. area to fall in love with reading. In its seventh year, United Reads will continue to partner with the Heart of America Foundation to provide new books to each student during D.C. United player visits to each school.
WASHINGTON, DC (April 29, 2009) - D.C. United announced today plans to continue the 2009 season of United Drives by collecting canned food before home matches during the month of May. All items collected at the May 2, 9 and 23 games will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank and Children of Mine. Each month during the 2009 Major League Soccer season, D.C. United will collect items at every home game to benefit pre-determined non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. area.
U16 & U18 Academy Tryouts: In an effort to identify the best youth players in the Washington D.C. area, the D.C. United Academy will be holding tryouts for the U16 and U18 Academy teams in June. Players trying out for the U16 side must be born on or after Jan. 1, 1993, while the age cutoff date for the U18 squad is on or after Jan. 1, 1991. Tryout sessions will be held at RFK Stadium’s Auxiliary Turf Field and all players must complete the waiver and player registration forms.

Washington, D.C. (April 23, 2009) – D.C. United announced today the club has signed veteran defender Avery John. D.C. waived forward Francis Doe in order to make a roster spot available for the Trinidad and Tobago international. John’s rights were acquired from the New England Revolution in exchange for a conditional draft pick in either the 2010 or 2011 MLS SuperDraft. The 33-year old defender will be available for selection on Sunday, when the Black-and Red travel to New Jersey to battle their Atlantic Cup rivals the New York Red Bulls. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
