Washington, D.C. (March 28, 2009) - D.C. United will participate in a four-team challenge to see which club can collect the most funds for Nothing But Nets during a month-long Major League Soccer initiative that culminates on World Malaria Day on April 25. Created by the United Nations Foundation, Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. A $10 donation goes directly toward the purchase, distribution and education about the proper use of a long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed net, which can prevent Malaria.

Kickoff Luncheon raises more than $20,000 for United for D.C.

Washington, D.C. (March 28, 2009) - D.C. United and its non-profit arm, United for D.C., today announced proceeds from the Seventh Annual Kickoff Luncheon totaled more than $20,000. The Kickoff Luncheon, featured Dave Johnson, television voice of D.C. United, as the host and Franklin Foer, editor of The New Republic and author of How Soccer Explains the World, as the keynote speaker. United President Kevin Payne and co-managing partner Victor MacFarlane also spoke at the fundraiser held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at the National Harbor.

Washington, D.C. (March 27, 2009) - D.C. United announced today that it acquired the rights to midfielder John DiRaimondo through the waiver draft. DiRaimondo was most recently with the Colorado Rapids, spending two seasons with the club, before being released on March 25, 2009.

WASHINGTON, DC (March 27, 2009) - D.C. United announced today plans to kick off the 2009 season of United Drives by collecting children’s books at the first home game of the season. All books collected at the March 28 game will benefit the team’s charitable arm, United for D.C., and its seven adopted schools. Each month during the 2009 Major League Soccer season, D.C. United will collect items at every home game to benefit pre-determined non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. area.

Metro area by providing a game day experience at D.C. United matches. Since 2001, Kicks for Kids has provided free-of-charge tickets to regular season D.C. United home matches, free meal vouchers, t-shirts and access to transportation assistance to area non-profit organizations and other community-based groups that serve at-risk, disadvantaged or inner-city children.

D.C. United and TD Bank partner to offer additional ATM access

WASHINGTON, DC (March 26, 2009) - Following a series of fan feedback initiatives, D.C. United announced today a partnership with TD Bank that will support an initiative to place four new ATM machines throughout RFK Stadium. The partnership also helped to fund the newly created guest services department, the building of the Fanatix Lounge, and the establishment of the GuestAssist text program all aimed to enhance the experience for those attending D.C. United home games this season.

United, together with the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, have announced Sodexo, Inc., a leading integrated food and facilities management services company based in Gaithersburg, Md., as the exclusive food and beverage concessionaire at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. Sodexo will manage all catering and concession operations at the stadium as well as feature increased food service locations on all concourse levels to better serve the needs of guests attending events. Sodexo will be introduced to fans attending D.C.

Results: After two losses last week against the New York Red Bulls’ Academy teams, the D.C. United Academy teams looked to rebound this past weekend playing Alberston on Saturday, March 21 and Gottschee on Sunday, March 22.

The U16s defeated Albertson on Saturday, with a final score of 3-1 thanks to two goals from forward Yaw Amankwa and one from Noah Merlin. Sunday’s game saw the U16s tie against Gottschee 1-1, with a score from Myles McGinley.
