Washington, D.C. (July 15, 2009) - United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, announced today that the Eighth Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by GEICO, raised more than $35,000. Proceeds from the event will benefit the charity’s three signature programs - United Reads, Kicks for Kids and the United Soccer Club - all of which use soccer to place an emphasis on literacy, healthy lifestyles and life skills for youth in the D.C. area.
Washington, D.C. (July 15, 2009) - CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association of Football) announced CD Luis Angel Firpo will replace Chalatenango as D.C. United’s opponent in the preliminary round of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League tournament. After Chalatenango failed to meet tournament requirements, Firpo enters the preliminary round as the second-best cumulative record among the runners-up in El Salvador’s Apertura and Clausura championships.

Washington, D.C. (July 10, 2009) - The D.C. United Academy U17 team earned its second MLS/SUM U17 Cup this week by defeating FC Dallas in the championship game. Forward Luis Cartagena opened up the scoring in the 15th minute, and it looked like United would hold on to the 1-0 lead until Dallas equalized in the 75th minute. After two 10-minute overtimes, the final went to penalty kicks, where United prevailed 6-5.

Washington, D.C. (July 7, 2009) - Following tonight’s 2-1 victory over the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL-2), D.C. United is set to host the Rochester Rhinos (USL-1) in the semifinal round of the U.S. Open Cup. The game will be held at the Maryland SoccerPlex July 21 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Rochester advanced to this year’s semifinal round courtesy of a 2-1 win over the Wilmington Hammerheads (USL-2).
