Washington, D.C. (June 9, 2009) -D.C. United players will be appearing at various community events this week. Ben Olsen, Devon McTavish, Chris Pontius, Anthony Peters, Brandon Barklage, Josh Wicks, Boyzz Khumalo and John DiRaimondo along with D.C. United staff will visit the Children’s National Medical Center on Thursday as part of the team’s biannual set of trips to the hospital. Patients will have the opportunity to test their soccer skills as well as participate in arts and crafts activities. The players will then visit other patients in their rooms.

It’s kind of funny that on the day when I thought “we’ve had better moments soccer-wise” you come out and take a game in which you shore up so there’s a real positive in that because we’ve been looking to do that but it wasn’t our best soccer day. United announced today that the Trinidad & Tobago National Team has called up defender Avery John to play in a pair of World Cup Qualifier games on June 6 vs. Costa Rica and June 10 vs. Mexico. John will report to the National Team immediately after D.C. United’s League game against the New England Revolution on May 30.

The match, to be held at FedExField, will take place on Sunday, August 9 at 3 p.m. ET. As a result, the previously scheduled Major League Soccer match against the Kansas City Wizards will be moved to September 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
