We came out all right in the first 10 minutes and it went south from there and you could probably see we were a little rusty. We adjusted a little bit at halftime and I thought tactically we started to play a little bit better. Obviously Jaime [Moreno] helped that. But yeah we had a rough stretch in the first half, we made it pretty hard on ourselves when we had that chance early and didn’t put it away.
Washington, D.C. (July 17, 2009) - D.C. United announced today midfielder Brandon Barklage has undergone successful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery. The 22-year old rookie is out for the season and has been placed on the Season Ending Injury List, which will allow for a roster replacement. Barklage suffered the injury during United’s 2-1 Open Cup win over Harrisburg on July 7.
Washington, D.C. (July 17, 2009) - D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., announced today a collaboration with team sponsor Glory Days Grill. Though the Dining for Dollars program, customers who dine at any Glory Days Grill location from now until September 30, can earn 10 percent of the total bill as a donation to the foundation. Customers must request a copy of their guest receipt and submit it to United for D.C.
Washington, D.C. (July 16, 2009) - U.S. Soccer today announced the possible sites for the final of the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Should D.C. United advance past USL-1 side Rochester Rhinos in the semifinals of the competition, the Black-and-Red would host the championship match against the winner of the Seattle Sounders - Houston Dynamo match on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at RFK Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Tickets to the U.S. Open Cup final will be included in United’s season ticket packages. More details will be released at a later date.
WASHINGTON, DC (July 16, 2009) - D.C. United announced today plans to continue the 2009 season of United Drives by collecting soccer equipment before the team’s July 18 home match against the Colorado Rapids. All items collected at the game will benefit Athlete to Atleta and United for D.C. and its signature program, United Soccer Club.
Washington, D.C. (July 15, 2009) – D.C. United today acquired midfielder Danny Szetela via its #2 allocation ranking. Szetela joins the Black-and-Red after spending two-plus years in Spain’s La Liga and Italy’s Serie B. The 22-year old is currently with the team and will be available for selection upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. He is not expected to be available when United takes on the Colorado Rapids at RFK Stadium this Saturday (8 p.m. ET, Comcast SportsNet).

United, announced today that the Eighth Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by GEICO, raised more than $35,000. Proceeds from the event will benefit the charity’s three signature programs - United Reads, Kicks for Kids and the United Soccer Club - all of which use soccer to place an emphasis on literacy, healthy lifestyles and life skills for youth in the D.C. area.
Washington, D.C. (July 15, 2009) - CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association of Football) announced CD Luis Angel Firpo will replace Chalatenango as D.C. United’s opponent in the preliminary round of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League tournament. After Chalatenango failed to meet tournament requirements, Firpo enters the preliminary round as the second-best cumulative record among the runners-up in El Salvador’s Apertura and Clausura championships.

United will take on Carmel United on Thursday night, July 16, in the tournament’s championship game. The match will be shown live on ESPN Classic at 7 p.m.
