Mike Chabala acquired
D.C. United announced today the club has acquired defender Mike Chabala from the Portland Timbers in exchange for a natural first round selection in the 2014 MLS Supplemental Draft. The 28-year old will arrive in DC this afternoon and train with the team for the first time tomorrow.
New tiebreakers designed to encourage attacking play
As Major League Soccer enters the final third of its 2012 regular season, each match takes on increased importance. Only the top five clubs in each conference will qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs, which will begin Oct. 31 and conclude Dec. 1 with MLS Cup, hosted by the finalist with the better regular season record.

Reserve League match postponed, VW Ride & Drive continues at 1pm
D.C. United's Reserve League match scheduled for Sunday, August 5, at 11am has been postponed due to the tragic news out of Columbus that Crew rookie midfielder Kirk Urso passed away Saturday night.
The Crew front office issued the following statement early Sunday morning: "While the circumstances of Urso’s passing are still being determined, no further comments will be made at this time. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Columbus Crew and Hunt Sports Group are with the Urso family in this time of need."

United Drives to collect school supplies during August
Throughout the 2012 Major League Soccer season, D.C. United collects items at select home games to benefit pre-determined non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. During the month of August, United for D.C. – D.C. United’s charitable arm – will collect new school supplies to benefit its six adopted D.C. public elementary schools: Harriet Tubman Elementary School, Payne Elementary School, Savoy Elementary School, Ketcham Elementary School, Simon Elementary School, and Bruce Monroe Elementary School.
White and Dykstra loaned out for the weekend
D.C. United announced today that Ethan White and Andrew Dykstra will be loaned out to United Soccer League (USL) sides for the weekend. White will join the Richmond Kickers for a Friday night matchup with Antigua Barracuda FC at City Stadium in Richmond. Dykstra will join the Charleston Battery for matchups on Friday (home) and Saturday night (away) against the Wilmington Hammerheads.
De Rosario and Jakovic called up by Canada
D.C. United announced today that midfielder Dwayne De Rosario and defender Dejan Jakovic have both been called up to the Canadian Men’s National Team. The two previously were called up for a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Cuba (6/8/12) and a friendly against the U.S. Men’s National Team (6/3/12).
De Rosario has started all of United’s 20 matches this season, tallying five goals and a League-best 10 assists. While with Canada, De Rosario has scored 19 goals in 69 international appearances.
Academy team set to compete in the 2012 Generation adidas Cup
D.C. United’s Academy will kickoff the 2012 Generation adidas Cup in Seattle this Friday, August 3. The Black-and-Red will compete in Group B against FC Dallas (Friday, August 3), LA Galaxy (Saturday, August 4), and Toronto FC (Monday, August 6).
Salihi called up for Albania friendly v Moldova
D.C. United announced today that striker Hamdi Salihi has been called-up to the Albanian National Team for an upcoming friendly against Moldova on August 15. Salihi will head home to Albania for the matchup at Qemal Stafa Stadium on August 12 and he will return to Washington on August 16.
Salihi has been a regular for the Albanian National Team throughout his career. The striker has scored nine goals in 37 senior team matches. Last year, Salihi scored three goals in ten international matches for Albania.
Television schedule expanded
In conjunction with Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, the region’s premier source for multiplatform sports coverage, D.C. United today announced the addition of five League fixtures to the club’s regional television schedule. United games at Sporting Kansas City (August 11), at Real Salt Lake (September 1), at Portland (September 29) and at Toronto FC (October 6) will now air live on CSN. The regular season home finale vs. the Columbus Crew is now planned for air on CSN+. The additions result in a total of 21 games broadcast by the club’s regional television partner.
