A fresh baked turkey that tantalizes your palette. Thick slices of cranberry sauce straight from the can. And yams so sweet that part of you feels guilty for gobbling them up. All of these delights are just a few of my favorite things about Thanksgivings. And this holiday season, I had the privilege of serving these joys to the thousands who gathered at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the Safeway Feast of Sharing.
Elementary school was a simpler time in life. For me, the most challenging part of elementary school was learning my spelling words. For some of the children at Amidon-Bowen Elementary school, the challenges they face are much more real.
Washington, D.C. (November 13, 2013) - D.C. United today announced that its non-profit arm, United for D.C., will hold its League of Champions tournament to mark the end of United Soccer Club’s (USC) fall season. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10a.m.-2p.m. on the RFK Stadium Training Field and will involve participants, ages 6-12, from USC’s current season.

D.C. United today announced that Victor Melara has been named Director of Community Relations, effective Monday, Nov. 18, 2013.
Melara, bilingual in English and Spanish, was born and raised in the District of Columbia and previously worked at Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and Discovery Communications connecting products and services to local and national communities.
D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., today announced the schedule for United Reads during the Fall of 2013. United Reads is a signature program created to encourage elementary school students in the greater Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area to read and to promote the importance of healthy lifestyles. United Reads is currently in its 11th year and has distributed over 81,000 books to local elementary students in underserved communities, serving over 23,000 students through school visits.
On August 17, D.C. United and United for D.C., hosted the annual Corporate Cup. The event, which took place at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Virginia, was attended by over 150 participants and spectators.
12 teams participated in the event, which raised $7,500 for D.C. United's charitable arm, United for D.C., and the winning team was recognized at halftime of D.C. United's match on August 24 at RFK.

Yesterday, D.C. United staff, along with goalkeeper Joe Willis and defender James Riley volunteered at D.C. Central Kitchen (DDCK). Together with the kitchen staff, we made meals for thousands of people in need. DCCK Volunteer Coordinator, Casey Thomasson prepped the group and explained what DCCK does for the community.
