Canada National Team
Here’s what to keep an eye on Friday as a trio of D.C. United players represent their respective national teams in World Cup Qualifying:
Hamdi Salihi (Albania – Cyprus - 2:30)
D.C. United announced today that midfielder Dwayne De Rosario and defender Dejan Jakovic have both been called up to the Canadian Men’s National Team. The two previously were called up for a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Cuba (6/8/12) and a friendly against the U.S. Men’s National Team (6/3/12).
De Rosario has started all of United’s 20 matches this season, tallying five goals and a League-best 10 assists. While with Canada, De Rosario has scored 19 goals in 69 international appearances.
Moments after his national team finished off a goal-less
draw against Honduras in World Cup qualifying action on Tuesday night, Dwayne
De Rosario was – much like he is in the aftermath of any D.C. United match – at
the epicenter of the gathered media’s attention.
And, despite the general consensus that Canada could have
taken three points, DeRo wasn’t about to focus on what might have been.
D.C. United announced today that defender Dejan Jakovic has been called-up to the Canadian Men’s National Team for two upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and a friendly match against the U.S. Men’s National Team. Jakovic will join the Canadian Soccer Association from May 27 to June 13, but will not miss any D.C. United League matches.

The accolades just keep coming for Dwayne De Rosario.
After already having secured the Golden Boot and Most Valuable Player awards in MLS, the D.C. United star was named Canada’s male Player of the Year on Wednesday.
De Rosario earned the honor based on a stellar year in which he scored 16 goals and 12 assists in league play. His goal total, split between three teams over the MLS season, was the highest of his illustrious career so far.
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — The Canadian national team will take little consolation from its 0-0 draw with St. Kitts and Nevis on Friday night knowing that they’re one step closer to qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
That said, concerns will be raised about the side’s inability to put the ball in the net. For the second time in as many games, the Canadians slumped to a scoreless draw against lower-ranked opposition.
The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its
