Last year, Chris Pontius and D.C. United presented the Washington Wizards' John Wall a personalized jersey. The point guard has been seen around the country, sporting the Black-and-Red kit, and was most recently spotted in Las Vegas.

On Tuesday, July 16, D.C. United volunteers, with the help of both Target and Salvation Army volunteers, paired up with kids of the Salvation Army’s Social Services program and took them back-to-school shopping at Target. Each kid received an $80 gift card, and each volunteer made sure the kids purchased everything needed to start the school year off right. After the shopping spree, all participants enjoyed a late breakfast provided by Target and the Salvation Army DC. The event was a huge success and rewarding for the kids and volunteers alike.

Among those volunteering was D.C. United Marketing Coordinator Adam Hoyt who shared his experience through a Tweet.

Michael Seaton, just 17-years-old, made an immediate impact in D.C. United's friendly against Chivas de Guadalajara last Friday. Coming on in the 73rd minute, Seaton, with his very first touch for the DCU First Team, found Carlos Ruiz, who put the ball in the back of the net. Yesterday, the Washington Post's Soccer Insider, Steven Goff, spoke with the young, Homegrown product about his development, his stellar performances with Richmond and his future.

D.C. United’s newest Homegrown product Collin Martin will go on loan to United’s USL PRO affiliate the Richmond Kickers. Collin joins five other DCU players on loan with the Kickers who are all availble for recall at any point during the season. This weekend, Martin, Shanosky and Seaton will travel with the Kickers to take on the Phoenix FC Wolves on Friday, the Los Angeles Blues on Sunday and Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves next Tuesday. Richmond departs for their West Coast trip tonight and returns on Wednesday, the 24th; Martin, Seaton and Shanosky will rejoin DCU for training on Thursday.

Former D.C. United player Guy Kpene was in attendance tonight for DCU’s friendly vs. Chivas de Guadalajara. Kpene rocked the Black-and-Red from 2007-08 before making the move to the Houston Dynamo. The former United forward then went on to play for the USL PDL side, Long Island Rough Riders before making the decision to return to Dowling College and get his MBA in corporate finance.
“I finished my masters, and I’m looking for a job.” said Kpene. “I want to do finance, but I still have love for the game, so I don’t know. We will see.”
Kpene had always planned on going back to school, even while playing professionally.
“Oh, I always knew it. I was always good at school,” he said. “I knew at some point I was going to stop [playing soccer] and go to school again.”
Also spotted in the stands tonight was D.C. United legend Jaime Moreno, who is set to be inducted into United’s Hall of Tradition in September. Moreno enjoyed the match cheering along with the Barra Brava.

D.C. United goalkeeper, Joe Willis is featured on Monumental Network's new soccer-specific show, Monumental FC.
