Echa Panza is competing in National Red Bull Flugtag this Saturday afternoon at the Southpointe Waterfront in the National Harbor. The hangars open at noon, but the first flight takes off at 2:00 p.m. Everyone at D.C. United wishes the Black-and-Red faithful luck in the competition, whose plane is outfitted like Talon! Dcunited.com will be at the event, so check back in next week for a video and some pictures if you cannot make it, but we hope to see you there cheering on our fans!
D.C. United hosted a viewing party at Lucky Bar, and we captured fan reactions to last night's semifinal victory.
When D.C. United takes the field for tonight’s game against the New England Revolution, the team will be doing so on a fresh pitch. The re-sodding process began two weeks ago following United’s international friendly against Chivas de Guadalajara, and a maintenance crew has been working around the clock to install the new turf.
Workers began the process by stripping the old grass and delivering approximately 18 truckloads of fresh sod from North Carolina. The specialized crew, who also traveled from North Carolina, started laying out the grass early last week during long shifts in the D.C. heat. They rolled out the final piece of sod last Friday, giving the field about a week for the roots to take hold and grow into a playable pitch. Compared to past re-soddings, this year’s crew had one less week to grow the field, but players seemed pleased with the pitch during Friday morning’s training session at RFK Stadium.
D.C. United’s Robbie Russell, John Thorrington, James Riley and Daniel Woolard enjoyed a delicious meal at Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company. Before the players sat down to their meal, RJ Kenney of Rocklands brought Russell to the “Wall of Fire”— a fully stocked shelf of over 100 different hot sauces. The four members of the Black-and-Red indulged in authentic barbeque with their families and friends, and after watching the video, all of us in the office are thinking baby back ribs for dinner.
With Russell leaving for medical school shortly after this video was filmed, the Beautiful Dish ratings were never solidified. But, the blog will continue and be back in full effect soon.
