This weekend, 16 of the top indoor soccer teams from the Washington Metropolitan area will battle to win Copa D.C. X, the annual 6 versus 6 tournament hosted by D.C. United and presented by Volkswagen. Over the past nine years the tournament has attracted an abundance of teams, but only two have been crowned victors. La Mara dominated Copa D.C. for the first eight installments, but during the final last year this dominance came to an end.

Charm City FC stripped La Mara of the Copa D.C. title, and the club returns this year aiming to launch a winning streak of its own. “We have made a couple of changes [to the team], we have picked up some strong pros that will help us be as good as we were last season,” said Charm City FC manager Patrick Crawford. He continues, “We are quite aware of what La Mara has, we have played many games against clubs like Aegean Hawks and [La Mara], so it’s going to be a great competition.”

In addition to Charm City FC and La Mara, the other contending teams include Cochabamba, Citron Sport Boys, East Coast Alliance, Havre de Grace, Cobras de Woodbridge, United Peru, Tropa de Elite, Aegean Hawks FC, The Known, Diablos F.C., n-tieractive, Aguila, and Fredericksburg Generals. The tournament winners will receive a check for $3,000, the Copa D.C. itself, and 12 first place medals. The runner-up will receive a check for $1,500 and second place medals, while the third place team a $1,000 check and its own set of medals. The fourth place side will receive medals as well. The tournament will be held at the Rockville Sportsplex in Rockville, Md. The group stage matches will be held on Saturday, November 6 from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., and the quarterfinals, semifinals and Copa D.C. X Final will take place on Sunday, November 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with the final kicking off at 2:00 p.m. The Electrical Alliance and Adidas are supporting sponsors of the tournament.
