Children's hospital visit
As part of the United Builds program, several D.C. United players and staff visited the Children's National Medical Center yesterday. Santino Quaranta, Kurt Morsink, Julius James, Jed Zayner, Devon McTavish and Brandon Barklage were all on hand to play with and sign autographs for the kids. The day's activities included coloring, playing card games and handing out United #1 foam fingers. While the staffers present played with children in the Center's atrium, the players headed upstairs to personally visit kids in their rooms.
This was the second of two visits the team makes to the hospital each year. This one was extra special because the club also donated toys collected through the United Drives initiative. United Drives collects items for different beneficiaries throughout the season, and during September fans donated toys at the Black-and-Red's home games. This season marks the seventh year of the United Drives campaign.
During October, United Drvies will be collecting toiletries to benefit Thrive DC, an organization that works to prevent and end homelessness by providing vulnerable individuals with a comprehensive range of services to help stabilize their lives.
