Olsen receives match ball following Union win
Sitting on Ben Olsen's desk in the coaches office in RFK Stadium is a signed MLS Jabulani ball. United's Interim Head Coach received this gift following Sunday's 2-0 home victory over Philadelphia Union. All of Olsen's players signed the ball to commemorate the former midfielder's first career win in charge of the Black-and-Red. When asked about the match ball Olsen stated, "It was a really nice gesture from the guys - I was proud of their performance on Sunday."
There are some nice words inscribed on Olsen's ball, but Julius James' moniker is accompanied by a striking message. The defender wrote to Olsen, "You talk and we will follow." This message is poignant considering United's tumultuous season, and since taking the helm at the club Olsen's men have played very hard through three matches. Finally the Black-and-Red have a victory as a reward for their collective effort, and the club is preparing diligently this week to replicate Sunday's result against Chivas USA this weekend.
Tomorrow United will face Georgetown University in a reserve match at 9:30 a.m. on the RFK Auxiliary Field. This match is open to the public. The players depart for Los Angeles on Friday afternoon in advance of Sunday's 10:00 p.m. kickoff at the Home Depot Center.
