McTavish and King excited for Futbolito

Summer is flying by and school is just around the corner, bringing with it early mornings, rigid routine, and the ever-dreaded homework. Now is the time to squeeze in that last dose of stress-free fun in the sun, and what better way to do it than surrounded by friends and family, playing a game the kids love? We’re talking about ¡Futbolito!.
In case you haven’t heard, the official 4v4 tournament of Major League Soccer comes to the Maryland SoccerPlex on Satuday, August 7, promising a day full of food, music, and fun activities for the whole family along with the exciting soccer competition. The deadline for registration has been extended through this Thursday, August 5 to ensure that every futbolista has a chance to participate and celebrate the love of the game. Futbolito is presented by United’s local partners, Volkswagen, Verizon Wireless, State Farm, and Pollo Campero.
A couple of our players wanted to chime in with their thoughts on the 4v4 tournament and what it means to D.C. United as well as the youth soccer community. Here’s what defender Devon McTavish had to say, “Futbolito is a great way for all of the tournament’s participants to hone their soccer skills. Short-sided games provide the best environment to really improve as a player, both mentally and physically. On top of that, it will be fun and I encourage everyone who loves the game to come out to SoccerPlex.”
United midfielder Stephen King agrees with McTavish, “In 4v4 settings you don’t have anywhere to hide – everyone gets a piece of the ball and everyone improves. If you are a midfielder, these types of tournaments are very important. We use smaller games like this in our training sessions every day, and I love them.”
Our players are excited about this weekend’s tournament, and you should be too!
