Training notes: Boskovic's first day and Talley's return

"I must say, it's quite hot," said the newest member of the Black-and-Red, Branko Boskovic, fielding questions beneath the DC sunshine. The captain of Montenegro's national side got his first official look at D.C. United today, as the crafty playmaker took time to meet his teammates and coaches while surveying the club's facilities. For most players meeting a host of new people can be intimidating, but Boskovic's interactions with his counterparts seemed natural and effortless.
Commenting on this notion, Boskovic stated, "It feels great being here. I am so impressed with the team, and everyone has made me feel very welcome. The way this team operates is wonderful, it feels like a big European club to me." The former PSG and Rapid Vienna star seemed very pleased with his new surroundings, and he is eager to begin helping United's attack.
Boskovic was not nearly so enthused about the record-setting heat here in Washington, as temperatures soared well above 90 degrees before United concluded training at 10:30 a.m. "Yes, this is much hotter than I am used to - no question about it."

Pablo Hernandez & Branko will be roommates:
United's other new signing, Argentine forward Pablo Hernandez, continued to excel on the pitch for the Black-and-Red as the striker put away several goals throughout the session. Ironically, United's two new additions will be rooming together in Pentagon City. According to Boskovic, he and Hernandez have struck up a good friendship and have agreed to live together and help one another adjust to life in the Nation's Capital.
Interestingly, Boskovic does not speak Spanish, and Hernandez is still learning English, but communication is not a problem for either player. "We are very similar people. Both of us are laid back and enjoy life, and we make our communication work. [Pablo] is a very good guy - we get along well."
Carey Talley returns:
Meanwhile, United was boosted by the return of Carey Talley to full-sided competition, as the defender slotted in at right back in the latter portion of training. Talley has been missing from United's line-up since the beginning of June after suffering a concussion in training. The veteran defender looked comfortable on his feet despite the overwhelming humidity, and hopefully he will make a full return to the club's first team shortly.
Andy Najar scoring goals in matches and training:
Andy Najar continued his fine form after scoring last weekend in San Jose. The 17-year-old prodigy slid several goals past 'keeper Bill Hamid in finishing drills, as the exuberant midfielder flashed a smile after each lethal finish. Chris Pontius scored a great near-sided strike in 11 v 11 competition. The 2009 Gatorade Rookie of the Year Finalist was a threat on the wing all day. Marc Burch was missing from action again after receiving treatment on his ailing right foot, there is still no official word on his timeline.
