Impressive Credentials for Branko Boskovic

D.C. United fans are well aware of the pipeline that the club from the Nation’s Capital has had related to acquiring players from South America. It is far less common for United to sign European players, but that is the case with D.C.’s newest acquisition Branko Boskovic, who is a regular starter for the National Team of Montenegro. Branko is not widely known by soccer fans in Washington D.C., but even though his name doesn’t have a lot of star power, his resume is very impressive.
Montenegro is one of the newest federations in FIFA, as they split from Serbia after the 2006 World Cup. Montenegro was in a difficult group during World Cup 2010 Qualifying in which they finished tied for fourth in the six-team group. Boskovic played in all eight of their qualifying matches and was in the starting lineup seven times. In four of those qualifiers, Boskovic was the team captain. If a player is good enough to be a team captain of any national team in Europe, that player will surely have a positive impact for D.C. United. Take a look at some stats and notes about Montenegro’s National Team during their most recent World Cup Qualifying and Branko’s performances as a part of that team during that period. We’ve also included Montenegro’s group for qualification for Euro 2012.
