Emilio leaves United, as Cristman heads for surgery

With only two days to prepare for Los Angeles' visit to RFK Stadium on Sunday, United had no time on Friday to dwell on last night's narrow loss to Seattle Sounders FC. Said midfielder Stephen King, "I think it is better to have such little time leading up the LA game. You don't have a whole week to think about [the loss] and mull over it. Having another game on Sunday will help us put the [Seattle match] behind us."
As Curt Onalfo's men prepare to welcome League-leading LA at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, there are a few roster notes coming out of RFK today. United has not exercised the club option on forward Luciano Emilio, and the former MLS MVP will depart Washington for other opportunities. Emilio was brought back into the fold earlier in the season to bolster United's attack. The Brazilian made four League appearances for the Black-and-Red, starting one of those contests. Emilio failed to score in MLS play.
Emilio had one final message for United's supporters before his departure. "To all of the fans, you have been so good to me. Thank you for all of your support. I had a great time here, but now I think that time has gone. I will always remember the way people treated me here, and wherever I am in the world, if I see United supporters they will be friends to me."
In other news, forward Adam Cristman is heading to Germany for hernia surgery on his lower abdominal wall. A common procedure among soccer players, Cristman will fly to Munich this evening and will undergo the procedure on Monday. He is due to return to Washington next Tuesday, where his rehabilitation will occur under the guidance of United's medical staff for a few weeks.
