Marc Burch’s other half

Yesterday, we told you about Marc Burch’s recent wedding day. Today, we’ll talk about the fact that there’s more good news for the new Burch family, namely: Marc is back on the field for D.C. United. At the beginning of March, Burch underwent surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot. Last week, slightly ahead of schedule, Burch started training with his teammates again. "Last Tuesday I trained, I did about 50% of training, then did some of my own fitness and I felt really good. So Wednesday, they let me train full-go. We did two 30-minute halves and I played the entire time. My foot is sore, but it doesn’t restrict me from anything and I feel pretty good playing.”
Burch finally got on the gameday field again on Saturday in the friendly against El Salvador. He started in that match, and is hopeful to play in his first MLS game of the season this weekend at Columbus. Timing has been very good lately for Burch - the World Cup break gave him an extra two weeks to recover without missing additional league games, and the recent injury to Rodney Wallace opens a potential spot in the lineup for him as left back. “I feel horrible for Rodney, it’s a terrible injury to take, but on the bright side for me it’s actually a chance for me to go back to a spot that I think is my best and where I can help out the team the best.”
Burch has been a spectator so far this year, which enabled him to study the team and the matches closely so that he can make an immediate impact when he returns to MLS action. “I’ve watched every single game, home and away. I’ve been watching what our team needs and what I think we’ve been missing a little bit. I’m really hoping to just step right in and add the things I think we need and continue what Curt has been teaching everyone. I think we’re looking at a really bright second half of the season.”
