U18 Head Coach and Head Youth Scout
Tom Torres started his career with D.C. United in 2007 and 2008 by working camps, training programs, and assisting with the U-18 Developmental Academy team. In 2009, Torres was involved in creating the D.C. United Pre-Academy and was the Head Coach for the U-15 team. He stayed on in 2010 and became the Pre-Academy Manager, U-15 Head Coach, and an Assistant Coach for the U-18s and U-23s. In 2011, Torres was named the Head Coach of the U-16 Developmental Academy team, Head Youth Scout, Pre-Academy Manager and U-23 Assistant Coach. He is the current U18 Development Academy Head Coach.
Torres grew up, played soccer, and coached in the Washington, D.C. area. Torres played and graduated from Radford University and then played for USISL PDL before he began coaching in 1997 with Arlington Soccer Association. He has coached at Westfield High School, the Virginia ODP team, and was the head coach for two years with the Northern Virginia Royals in the PDL.
Torres holds several advanced coaching licenses such as the NSCAA National and Advanced National Diploma with Distinction, a USSF A license, and a UEFA B license. He is currently representing D.C. United in Major League Soccer's partnership with the French Football Federation as a candidate in the Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL), which will conclude October 2016.
Torres met his wife Jennifer playing coed soccer and then coaching with her at Arlington Soccer Association. They have three children named Grady, Gabby, and Sebastian.
