U18 Head Coach and U23 Assistant Coach
Tom Torres started his coaching career with D.C. United in 2007 working summer camps, training programs, and assisting with the U18 Developmental Academy team. In 2009, Torres was involved in creating the D.C. United Pre-Academy program and was the Head Coach for the U15 team. He stayed on in 2010 and became the Pre-Academy Manager, U15 Head Coach, and an Assistant Coach for the U18s and U23s. In 2011, Torres was named the Head Coach of the U-16 Developmental Academy team, Head Youth Scout, Pre-Academy Manager and U23 Assistant Coach. He is the current U18 Development Academy Head Coach and Assistant for the U23 team.
Torres grew up, played, and coached in the Washington, D.C. area. Torres played and graduated from Radford University and then played in USISL/PDL. He coached club and high school soccer while in college in 1995 and 1996, before he returned to the area and officially began a career in coaching in 1997 with the Arlington Soccer Association. In addition to his time in the local club scene, Torres coached at the high school level, within Virginia's State ODP team, and was the head coach for two years with the Northern Virginia Royals in the PDL until 2009.
Torres holds several advanced coaching licenses such as the NSCAA National and Advanced National Diploma with Distinction, a USSF A license, and a UEFA B license. He is currently representing D.C. United in Major League Soccer's partnership with the French Football Federation as a candidate in the Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL), which will conclude in October 2016.
Torres lives in Burke, VA with his wife Jennifer, who he met playing coed soccer and coaching in the same club. They have three children named Grady, Gabby, and Sebastian.
